THE WINTER CRASH OUT

The seasonal depression in is full swing. I feel like everyone around me is in such a bad mood, I can’t lock down a guy to save my life, just feel like I’m in such a funk lately.
Am I the only one having a winter crash out?
Winter definitely has a way of making everything feel heavy. They days are grey, your tan has disintegrated, and you’re wearing more layers than Joey in that one episode of Friends. Instead of having a mental breakdown about your whole life falling apart, Try to think of this as a hibernation season. And no, I don’t mean pack on twenty extra pounds and sleep twelve hours a day. I mean grind privately, plan intentionally, and recharge for new growth in spring.

As far as dating, its a good time of year to take a break. People are lazy and not in their right mind anyway. You’re better off spending cozy nights with people who make you feel happy and fulfilled. Plan activities with friends like craft nights, movie premiers, workout classes, dinner parties, book clubs etc. Try to push yourself to socialize unless you really need a day to recharge your social battery, even if that means a phone call or FaceTime! When the weather is warmer and everyone is feeling energized again, you can get back into dating, but maybe giving yourself a little grace right now would be a good thing.
Use the new year as a fresh start to reorganize and set goals. Combat seasonal depression by getting sunlight (even if its sitting in a sunny window), eating cleaner, moving your body, and cleaning your spaces. Purge old clothes you don’t wear, books you don’t read, and any other clutter you can live without. Move your furniture around and rotate in some new decor to make your home seem fresh. This is also the perfect time to take up a new hobby. Maybe teach yourself to cook or listen to new music. “Romanticize your life” as the kids say. Basically, find gratitude in the mundane and make the most of it.
Although summer feels a million months away, it will be here before we know it. Try to push through this funk as best you can and make it a productive time instead of rotting and wallowing. A lot of us are feeling this same way right now. Take hold of the things in your control, because we can’t change the weather or how much daylight there is, but you can change how you react to it. xo
