Help! My dating life is so boring all of a sudden. Apps are so dead! What is some advice for reviving my love life.
I fear it is not just you, girly. Welcome to the holiday dating drought. The dreaded time of year where everyone is hibernating from the dating scene for no apparent reason. Lets talk about how to spend this season in order to kick start your love life in the new year.
The holiday dating drought seems random but it can actually be explained. Theres a few reasons dates are hard to lock down around this time. First of all, everyone is so dang busy. Whether its traveling to visit family, making time to shop, meeting end of year deadlines at work, or scheduling all of those decorating and baking traditions - everyone has a packed calendar. On top of that, think logically about what it would look like to start dating someone in the midst of the jolly season. What are you going to do, exchange gifts on date three? It it a bit of an intimate time of year with enough awkward social norms to figure out before factoring in a new relationship. Of course this also marks the end of cuffing season where all the cute couples freshly dating during the fall have now committed in order to not face the harsh winter alone. Also it is freezing there are less people out and about. It is not just you I swear, this is a real thing!!

Here is what we are going to do. Instead of wallowing in self pity like the Grinch, take this time to have a little glow up. December is pretty much a wash so spend the month making your new years resolutions, decluttering your space, making a vision board, bake delicious treats, and investing some serious time in your self care routines. If you walk in to the new year feeling your best, that fabulous energy is going to draw in someone of the same ilk.
Just like the gym, dating apps become crowded in January with so many people trying to start fresh. You may have to sift through a little bit more of what you don’t want to find what you do want, but its so much better than having no choices at all. Also, no one is stopping you from being on more than one app at a time. Maybe after the break in December, you will feel motivated to really get out there in January. As hard as it is, try to get yourself out of the house, too. People use the new year to try new things so embrace that energy and maybe it will pay off!
Do not worry, there are plenty of people feeling the same drought you are feeling. The single people didn’t disappear off the face of the earth, they are just taking a break. Enjoy your family and friends, focus on yourself, reset your mental health and when the new year rolls around your cup will be so full!
